Tube swaging is an end forming process used to reduce the end of a tube to suit a designed application. We use a wide variety of tube swaging techniques to create tubular parts made to customer specifications including rotary swaging, ram forming, and die crimping. Other terms associated with tube swaging are tube pointing, tube reduction, tube necking down, tube reducing, tube crimping, telescoping tube, tube swagging, and tube draw forming.

Rotary Swaging
Used for small diameter and hypodermic tubing. Our capability for this type of swaging is limited to 3/8” and under. A pair of precision machined dies rotates over the tube and compresses the outer surface to reduce the diameter to the desired size. This can be done over relatively long portions of the tubing. The surface finish is generally very smooth with a long smooth transition area.
Ram Forming
Ram Forming is used to swage relatively short sections of the tube end. This is sometimes called draw forming. The surface finish is not quite as good and the transition is a little more abrupt. Our capability is from hypodermic to ¾” for this type of swaging. This type of waging is good sizing the ends fro insertion into itself or a specific size opening.
Die Crimping
Die Crimping is used to size relatively short sections of tube end by crimping the outside diameter to a smaller size. The surface finish will generally have tool marks from the crimping dies showing. This is a very cost effective method of end reduction commonly used for items such as tent poles and sign posts and frames that are assembled in the field using telescoping connections. Our capacity for this type of swaging is from ½” to 3”.
